Wilderness Survival
An introductory course to the foundations of wilderness survival.
Service Description
This wilderness survival course is designed to be an introduction to the core skills that lie at the heart of wilderness survival. Our day begins at 9:00am with a discussion of the three priorities of wilderness survival: maintaining homeostasis, hydration, and sleep. Next, we approach our first skills based activity: shelter building. You will be instructed on how to build a simple emergency shelter that is highly adaptable to various weather conditions using simple materials. This will include mastery over a variety of knots and rope tying skills. Following this activity our next topic is water purification. We will demonstrate a variety of methods for purifying water and discuss the need to balance hydration needs with the risks of drinking wild water. Fire building is an essential skill in any survivalist's tool belt. This portion of the course will train students on the art of fire making. We will cover skills such as creating a proper fire layout, how to start a fire with minimal materials, how to be safe around fire, and essential no-tracing skills. All participants are required to have close toed shoes and weather appropriate clothing. Snacks will be provided, but please bring a lunch. Please be sure to wear sunscreen and bring a water bottle. We will be outside all day so prepare accordingly. We are currently offering a 20% discount when you make a booking for four or more students. We require one parent chaperone per four minors. See ya out there! Please email or give us a call to make a booking.
